Seaspray Pools Project 5
Drawing inspiration from the nearby McCrae beach, this extraordinary project by Seaspray Pools features a fully tiled half-moon spa with a bright and radiant Bermuda Blue ceramic tile that perks up the waterline throughout the rest of the pool. The pool interior is a striking Cobalt Blue glass pebble, complimented by the sandy coloured travertine paving used to face the raised walls and the pool coping, echoing the natural shades of the sand and ocean. And, with the addition of the sheerface water feature, the gentle sounds of splashing water establish the feelings of serenity – as if you were walking along the beach itself.
Being a holiday house, it was vital to include features that would aid in pool maintenance while the owners were absent. Embracing the benefits of modern technology, an Aqualink Tri was installed to allow the owners to easily control various features of the pool and spa from the control panel or remotely via smartphone. Further to this, the addition of an automatic water leveller was included to ensure the water levels are kept, a robotic pool cleaner set on a timer for daily cleaning, and of course a water chemical management system with a self-dosing element to ensure the correct water balance throughout the entire year.
Upon the initial design visit it was found that entry into the proposed pool area for heavy machinery would be extremely complicated. The only entry point was simply a few metres wide and up a cobblestone driveway, leaving no room for error. Following the pre-construction site assessment, design meetings, and final engineer’s reports, the construction went underway ultimately requiring over 32 truckloads of soil to be removed from the site over five days. As the swimming pool construction would block the only access to the rest of the yard, there was no alternative but to allow external works to commence at the same time as the swimming pool excavation. This included landscaping works such as cutting of the land, piping diversions, and excavating post holes for future retaining walls.
