Minke Pools

By definition, the Australian word ‘schmick’, meaning stylish, elegant and efficient in design, is the most accurate way to describe this beautifully detailed project by Minke Pools.

A large scale renovation to an existing pool, the original pool was shortened, new entry steps and lighting were added, and the raised spa and associated catchment gutter was tied into the old concrete shell.

The key design feature of this pool, and unmistakable ‘wow’ factor, comes from the raised four-sided perimeter overflowing spa. This stylish spa gives the pool an architectural feel to complement the clean and contemporary features on the newly renovated home. It also provides the clients with a striking landscape feature to be viewed from the main living area in the house.

The spa is finished in a black large format Australian granite, and the pool has a black natural pebble internal stone finish. The elegant black internal finish gives the pool and spa a mirror-like finish that picks up the reflections from the green surrounding foliage. The pool paving surround is a custom white concrete, and a deck has been built around the spa to introduce another natural element into the design and break up the space.

Behind the scenes, the sanitation and automation has all been designed to be low-maintenance and user-friendly. The pool has an in-floor cleaning system, salt chlorination with a built-in pH control, large gas heater, automatic water leveler and LED lighting. A Jandy AquaLink pool automation system adds to the usability of the pool and was included to control all the pool and spa functions via a handheld PDA unit.

Minke Pools is a bespoke pool builder, and working on a small number of projects each year enables the company to focus on quality over quantity construction practices. It also ensures the highest standards are maintained on all projects.

Established in 2008, business partners Cameron McCausland and John Negri bring together more than 25 years of concrete swimming pool construction experience. Both John and Cameron are hands on in their approach and their highly trained in-house staff completes and controls all elements of the construction process.
