Goldfish Pools & Landscapes Project 4

The owners of this pool and landscape requested the design of the pool to be aesthetically appealing as well as being suitable for year round entertaining. This pool and landscape design facilitates both luxury living and easy entertaining. Featured above, this design combines a family orientated pool, spa and surrounding landscape to harmonise with and complement the newly renovated residence.

As the primary visual focus of the outdoor entertainment space, the pool is located so that it would be clearly visible from the open plan living spaces of the house. The generous paved areas between the house and around the pool, along with the raised poolside timber decking and the existing residence seamlessly integrate the pool into the landscape.

The pool and spa has been fully tiled in mid-blue mosaic tiles. The spa includes six multi-directional hydrotherapy venturi spa jets with separate air controllers and boost pump, with an aerated floor grid, whilst the pool equipment was carefully chosen for minimal maintenance. The in-floor cleaning system eliminates the need to manually vacuum the pool, ensuring the owners can spend more time in the pool enjoying it rather than cleaning it, and it acts as a passive circulation system, injecting filtered and heated water through the floor of the pool, hence allowing a more even spread of heat and reducing chemical costs.

The salt chlorinator automatically sanitises the pool, so there is no need to add chlorine every week; an automatic pH controller maintains the pH of the water, while the solar and gas heating and in-house push button touchpad control system with spa side switch ensure the comfort level of the pool and spa is always at its maximum. The pool’s steps are unobtrusively located in the wide bench/offset in the corner of the pool, at the shallow end near the spa. This allows for easy access to and from the pool, and also provides ample poolside lounging for others to sit and relax in the water.

An extensive swim-out situated alongside the pool extends from the raised poolside timber deck along the southern side of the pool and under the raised feature stack stone clad wall, incorporating the water feature to provide generous underwater seating.

The landscape includes natural features such as Sawn Bluestone poolside paving (which continues to the house and forms the undercover entertaining area), cladding and capping to the rear raised poolside planter, richly coloured large format Spotted Gum raised decks and lush green plantings, which all combine to create a special outdoor oasis. The landscape is effectively framed by painted charcoal coloured timber batten screens to the surrounding boundaries, to ensure a stylish finishing touch.

The dominant feature is the ornamental raised wall at the end of the pool, with a swim-out beneath. Clad in Grampians stack stone, and incorporating a custom-made stainless steel Sheer Descent water feature situated high up in the wall for maximum affect, it creates a visual treat to accompany the aural delight of the splashing water, while allowing a great water play area for the children.

Frameless glass pool fencing utilising the up-stand mini post installation system ensures seamless pool safety without inhibiting the view from the house and compromising the beauty of the space. At night numerous LED pool lights and extensive strategic ambient landscape lighting illuminates the entire project, creating a stunning night time visual highlight, and allowing full use of the outside area both day and night. In keeping with the objective of water conservation, an underground water tank was installed to collect storm water. This recycled water is used to irrigate the lawn and garden beds, and by use of an automatic water levelling device, top up the pool when required.
