Seaspray Pools Project 4

This swimming pool features a six-metre-long internal swimout ledge incorporating internal steps, a 2.7m x 1.6 metre raised spa with internal floor grid and independent jet system, multicolour LED niche lighting, gas and solar heating, a fully automated water chemical management system and a Cooke in-floor cleaning system. Further chasing the newest technologies, an Aqualink TRi was installed with the swimming pool to ensure every feature can be controlled at the control panel or remotely via smartphone. All these features ensure the owners have complete control, usability, and confidence with the swimming pool and equipment.

This project required a 15-tonne excavator to remove all the rock commonly found in Research backyards, sectioning out all separate areas of the landscape design. The internal edges of the swimming pool were created out of lost formwork, establishing all the levels and separate sections within the structure. Despite the mess caused by the rock excavation, the floor profile of the design was created, safely housing the Cooke in-floor cleaning system. The balance tank was then steeled and internal plumbing was installed.

During the day of the concrete installation, some aspects of formwork and bracing were readjusted or removed to allow the spray crew to concrete tight areas of the project. With the balance tank being concreted first, this allowed enough time for the concrete to cure before the weight of the negative edge walls were added on top. To curve the top of the edges, a template was made from formply on site – ensuring a consistent and smooth shape on the concrete wall.

The two-sided negative edge was designed to bypass the requirement for a pool barrier, allowing the owners to walk out into the pool area from the home. Surrounding the edge is an oversize balance tank where a shallow pool of river rocks conceals the internal grates. To further ensure the pools compliance to fencing regulations, this balance tank was designed to contain no more than 300 millimetres of water at any time.
