Yarrabee & Castlemaine Stone Project 11

Elevated above the surrounding rural landscape, this project focuses on capturing uninterrupted and expansive 360-degree views across farmland and the Bunyip State Park. The entire home has been built as a viewing platform of the surrounding areas.  

Constructed on a working farm, this home and surrounds is the culmination of the client’s dreams, specifically designed to have strong visual ties to the farm. It is built from robust, low-maintenance materials and capable of handling the realities of working farm life – mud, machinery, and all! – without compromising on comfort or design.   

This project boasts a strong visual and spatial cohesion. Views have been framed and extended from internal to external spaces as the home maintains its strong foundation in the landscape.  

With further plans to artistically position and grow plants around the house, this project will be even more immersed in the landscape and lifestyle of the area when it is completed. 

With the abundance of space that this property boasts, the main challenge for this build was not how to fit everything, but rather how to make everything feel contained and cosy, while still being connected to the other areas, allowing the spaces to accommodate different uses. 

Robust materials such as silver travertine are used throughout the outdoor space, alfresco, pool house, and surrounds to ensure durability and cohesion for the whole area. Careful zoning is used to separate the areas, such as the fire pit and the pool, but the areas also maintain a cosy atmosphere, enabling use for all different types of outdoor entertainment. From intimate gatherings to large scale parties, these areas are designed for comfort and opulence.  

Zoning was also considered in the preparation of the outer areas of the farm, with guests and family subtly guided in and farm vehicles directed to outer areas of the complex.
