The owners of this Elsternwick property approached Sunbreaker Pools wanting an outdoor space to complement their architectural home. The brief called for integrated indoor and outdoor spaces, with a landscape design that looked as though it was built with the house.
The extensive use of glass throughout the home meant that the outdoor space was going to be highly visible from within the house. With many rooms offering views of the rear yard, aesthetic appeal was a high priority.
When Sunbreaker Pools designed the project, the layout was carefully considered to provide a seamless transition from indoor to outdoor living areas and to ensure the home’s windows captured the best views of the new outdoor space.
At the heart of the project lies the 10m x 4m concrete pool. Fully-tiled in a vibrant mosaic mix, the pool brings a fresh burst of colour to the space. The pool is equipped with both solar and gas heating, as well as Spa Electrics underwater lighting and equipment by Pool Controls and Pentair.
Drawing from the home’s colour palette, the pool is surrounded by Australian bluestone paving. This has been used throughout the outdoor space and is complemented by the warmth of merbau timber, which has been used on the bench seat and feature wall at the end of the pool, as well as in the outdoor dining and barbecue area.
Frameless glass fencing provides unhindered views of the pool and complements the home’s extensive use of glass. Soft landscaping provides the finishing touch, with planting selected to blend harmoniously with the existing established trees.
Brothers Michael and Tony Guseli established Sunbreaker Pools in 2003. With the added expertise of landscaping manager Shaun Leeming, the award-winning company today works throughout metropolitan Melbourne, building about 25 projects annually.
As this project demonstrates, the company offers more than just pools. Sunbreaker Pools can provide a complete outdoor solution including landscape design and construction, decking, frameless glass fencing and soft landscaping.
