Entering multiple projects into the 2021 SPASA Australia Awards of Excellence, Liquid Blue Pools swept up several wins and Highly Commended awards, however one project in particular really stood out to the judges, earning the Pool of the Year Award both in Victoria and nationally. Andrew Plithakis, director of Liquid Blue Pools, speaks with us about this incredible achievement, and the extraordinary pool behind it.
Scoring such an esteemed award such as Pool of the Year requires doing something big, and that’s exactly what Liquid Blue Pools did, in the most literal sense of the word, using the “single biggest piece of acrylic for a pool in the world”. Despite the challenges that came with working with such a large material and doing something that has never been done before, the outcome was certainly worth it. The effect is stunning, providing direct visual access to the water, and complementing the
modern, clean-cut design. With supportive and trusting clients, Liquid Blue Pools was able to treat the project like a blank canvas. Plithakis is also grateful for Pentair for supplying quality equipment, and Spa Electrics for designing and re-manufacturing their existing lighting to fit this particular project. This support allowed the team to create something that was simply “too good not to enter” into the awards. Liquid Blue Pools has been operating for more than 15 years, specialising in bespoke luxury concrete pools. The company has achieved many accolades in this time, including winning the Global Aquatic Award in 2011. “I’ve done state, I’ve done national, and I’ve done international – I think I’m ready to retire!” Plithakis jokes, although we’re sure we can expect to see more exciting and innovative projects in the years to come.
