Demonstrating true innovation and bringing something unique to the market, Maleco Pool and Spa Cover took home some well-deserved wins at the 2020 SPASA Australia and SPASAVIC Awards of Excellence, including Gold for Product of the Year Award. We speak with Lucia Malejko, director of Maleco Pool and Spa Cover, to find out what made the company’s product stand out at the awards.
While the company specialises in both pool and swim spa covers, the focus at the 2020 awards was specifically on its newest swim spa cover, which is unlike anything the Australian market has seen before. Since swim spas tend to be quite long and wide, removing and replacing the cover can be rather difficult. Malejko explains, “If you live alone, you are not able to fold the normal cover on your swim spa, [however] if you have the Maleco swim spa cover you just press the button on the remote
control and your cover goes up and becomes a shade.” Co-director and husband of Lucia, Laszlo Malejko, invented this incredible remote-controlled cover, making it not only easier for spa owners to use the cover, but also creating a clever shade that protects people from dangerous UV and allows them to relax in their spa in all sorts of weather conditions – a noble achievement that will go towards preventing skin cancer, “a big issue in Australia”. Maleco Pool and Spa Cover was founded eight years ago. Malejko, her husband, and the rest of the team “have always believed in being professional, while providing customers with quality products”. The last three years have been dedicated to creating this award-winning cover and shade system, which has been well worth the effort.
