This tranquil outdoor space was designed by Nick Newham, the landscape architect for Whyte Gardens. The clients wanted to transform their tired, outdated backyard into a low maintenance, child-friendly entertaining space that included a pool, and provided easy access to the garage.

The garden’s design incorporates steppers, which serve as a path to the garage and enhance the contemporary feel of the space. A bench seat was also included so that the clients can relax while keeping an eye on the children in the pool area.

The space seamlessly transitions from the indoors to the outdoors. A new window was installed by the clients so that as soon as they enter the house, they’ll see their beautiful garden. Long walls were also installed to provide privacy from the main road. The walls extend through the garden and create an eye-catching effect.

Whyte Gardens used lighter-coloured Beauford sandstone paving to complement the traditional style of the house, and let the plants stand out.

The company opted for traditional yet modern varietals for the garden – such as crepe myrtle, acer, and buxus spheres – which create a gorgeous colour palette of dark green, lime, and grey, with stunning splashes of purple. Lighting was expertly used to highlight the verandah, timber walls, and water features.

The depth of the garden posed a unique challenge to the team at Whyte Gardens. A convivial sense of space was achieved by strategically layering and staging various elements, such as the verandah, pool, water features, hedges and bench seat.
